What Reddit Buying Intent Actually Looks Like: 1,705 Qualified Leads Analyzed

An analysis of 1,705 model-qualified Reddit posts and comments created for IntentLoom from July 24 through August 24, 2026.

Direct answer

The short version

Reddit buying intent is usually early, incomplete, and hidden inside a problem discussion. In this dataset, 97.0% of qualified records were problem-aware or solution-aware, while only 2.7% were product-aware or purchase-ready. The practical job is therefore not to wait for “I want to buy” posts; it is to separate useful early intent from topical noise, vendors, and people who are not actually seeking a solution.

The distribution: most qualified conversations are not purchase-ready

The corpus contains only records that crossed the project’s qualification threshold, so it should not be read as a sample of all Reddit posts. Even within that selected set, 963 records were problem-aware, 690 were solution-aware, 44 were product-aware, two were purchase-ready, and six described a recent purchase.

That distribution explains why a useful Reddit workflow needs more than keyword alerts. A relevant problem can be worth monitoring or researching without being ready for a product reply.

Intent stageRecordsWhat it means for action
Problem-aware963Understand the pain; reply only when you can help without forcing the product.
Solution-aware690Look for active evaluation, failed approaches, or a request for options.
Product-aware44Check role, fit, and whether the named product context creates a real opening.
Purchase-ready2Prioritize quickly, then verify subreddit rules and full context.
Recently purchased6Usually research or support, not acquisition.

Broad keyword groups created most of the qualified review queue

Trigger-keyword attribution was retained on 1,638 of the 1,705 persisted opportunities, an attribution coverage rate of 96.1%. The remaining 67 records are reported as unattributed rather than assigned to a keyword by inference.

The two broadest phrases, “find clients” and “find customers,” accounted for 83.6% of attributed qualified records. This does not establish their false-positive rate because below-threshold provider alerts were not retained. It shows that broad discovery terms can dominate a review queue and still need downstream relevance and intent qualification.

Posts and comments carried nearly equal opportunity

Comments represented 49.9% of the saved conversations, compared with 50.1% for posts. That does not prove either format converts better, but it does show that post-only monitoring misses a large part of the language where people reveal constraints, current tools, failed attempts, or willingness to pay.

The useful unit is the conversation, not just the headline. A broad post can contain a high-intent comment, and a promising title can contain a body that disqualifies the opportunity.

Pain and product fit were common; budget and urgency were scarce

Each record was scored from 0 to 5 across seven dimensions. Pain averaged 3.42 and product fit averaged 3.21. Budget averaged only 0.88, while urgency averaged 1.88. Missing budget was also the most repeated negative signal family.

The implication is subtle: do not require explicit budget language for every Reddit opportunity, but do not mistake pain alone for readiness. Strong qualification combines several dimensions and treats missing commercial evidence as uncertainty.

DimensionAverage (0–5)Interpretation
Pain3.42The problem is visible in many qualified records.
Community context3.26The subreddit and conversation often fit the audience.
Product fit3.21The problem commonly overlaps the product’s job.
Authority2.68The speaker’s ability to decide is often uncertain.
Intent type2.29Many records describe a need without active evaluation.
Urgency1.88Deadlines and immediate action are uncommon.
Budget0.88Explicit willingness to pay is rare.

Methodology and limits

  • Source: one production IntentLoom project configured to find prospects for IntentLoom itself.
  • Observation window: Reddit items created from July 24 through August 24, 2026 (the latest item in the database snapshot was August 24).
  • Unit: persisted post Lead or comment Lead; a discussion may contribute more than one record.
  • Classification: model-generated intent stage, confidence, seven dimensions, and positive, negative, and disqualifying signals.
  • Outcome limitation: no saved or replied status was recorded in this window, so this study makes no conversion claim.
  • Selection limitation: below-threshold scanned items were not part of the persisted Lead corpus.

Frequently asked questions

Does every record in this study represent a buyer?

No. The 1,705 records are model-qualified opportunities that crossed the persistence threshold during the most recent 30-day observation window. Many are only problem-aware or solution-aware, and some contain disqualifying context. They are candidates for review, not confirmed customers.

Why are Reddit comments included as well as posts?

People often reveal a need, current tool, budget, or objection inside a comment rather than in the original post. In this corpus, comments made up 49.9% of persisted opportunities, so post-only monitoring would miss nearly half of the candidate records.

Can these numbers be used as a conversion benchmark?

No. No saved or replied status was recorded in this observation window, so the dataset cannot support claims about replies, meetings, or revenue. It describes the shape of qualified Reddit conversations, not downstream conversion.
